Not a unique experience, but I did struggle in school. I was terrible at writing essays, and had to take all my math classes twice, but a friend of mine told me about this video class where they spent most of the time playing games on the computer. The teacher running the class did know about film making but was just showing us how to point a camera. All that aperture and portraying emotions nonsense, that's for college. But once I got my sweaty fingers on that little JVC camcorder, my whole trajectory changed.
After that class, I heard through the grapevine about a more serious film making independent study where I joined as a cameraman & editor and met my film buddy Nareg. That film class is what kept me motivated to get through my classes. Graduated and was gifted my Nikon D3200 by my parents on the promise that I at least take a few classes in college. So i signed up for film classes.
I stopped after a few classes to focus more on work. I didn't do much filming, editing, or even worked with my camera for a good few years. Then I got to a point where I worked so few hours, I was just making enough to get myself lunch on my breaks. I decided to save up just a bit and new camera that can do 4K videos. After loads of research and budgeting I finally landed on the Panasonic Lumix G95.Â
Now I wanted to use the camera, so I left my job to go back to school and take more video classes and try out this photography class I found. I ended up loving the photography class so much that when I heard the school had a certificate, I made it my main goal. The professors were so encouraging, the classes were so fun, and the subject was so interesting to me that I honestly have set aside video work in pursuit of photography.
Today I've spent a few years with cameras, gotten into film photography, and earned my certificate. My favorite thing to do is take street style event photos. I love going to conventions and try to find stories of people enjoying their time, resting in their cosplays, or something more unique to that con. But above all, and it took a lot of consideration to reach this conclusion, I want to teach.
I want to teach photography to those who want to explore their camera or those who may even just have a phone but feel there can be more to their pictures. So I've made it my mission to learn about these different aspects of photography to make it easy for others,
